“The hardest part about my decision and journey was taking the first step”

Create, entertain, inspire and share…it’s what I have always wanted to do. Some of my earliest memories were singing and dancing, and now after years of thinking and wishing about it, I’m finally doing it!!

Growing up I wasn’t encouraged to take singing or music seriously. I was supposed to prioritize my studies and do everything else as a hobby, so that’s what I did. Even with this desire inside, I did the sensible thing: I went to University, got a couple of degrees and became a French teacher. I was great at my job – I liked it, but I didn’t love it.
Shortly after my teaching career began, I got into a serious car accident where I was hit by a drunk driver. This has been the biggest challenge I’ve had to face. It took a toll on me mentally, physically and emotionally.

It was a long road to recovery and along the way I discovered my strength and resilience. I learned to prioritize what I want, simplify things, appreciate life and keep things in perspective. This experience pushed me to follow my passion- because life is too short not to! So with a lot of courage, I quit my stable teaching job and became a full-time musician and DJ. The hardest part about my decision and journey was taking the first step.

A co-worker at the time gave me the best advice: To not be afraid and to think of everything as an adventure. She also sent me a Rumi quote elaborating on the concept:
“What is fear…..?
Non acceptance of uncertainty.
If we accept that uncertainty, it becomes adventure…!”

With this and with my goals in mind my DJ business picked up. I started getting more work through other DJs, entertainment companies, DJ companies and independently. I now DJ at various restaurants, pubs, weddings, engagements, corporate events, retail stores, galas, shows and more.

I have great mentors: DJ Dopey – 2003 DMC World Champion; 4 Korners – Toronto Raptors DJ; and Lucas – Owner of Pure Entertainment, who have all helped me along the way.
I have established a brand, have a good knowledge of music, great energy, and am always willing to learn and grow! – This is just the beginning.

Working as a DJ hasn’t been my biggest challenge but making a profit as an artist and singer-songwriter has. I know it takes time to see results in the music business so I will keep working hard and be patient. I’ve put out my first EP “Love & Indifference”, and am currently working on my album (coming out in 2018).

My dreams were put off for too long and life is too short for that. In the blink of an eye everything can change, and regret is one of the worst feelings. I am following my dreams and I encourage every beautiful soul reading this to do the same.

Take care of yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally by surrounding yourself with people, things and passions you love. Although it’s not always easy, you will feel more complete, fulfilled and truly be living your best life.
